Chugger

Never really got on with that cabin onboard Tom's original ship 'Chugger' - I think it was probably the very first thing I'd made in 3D. I mean it's fine, but the original renders show how basic it is - almost no textures, low poly, bad/cold lighting. Compared to the Wraith bunk scenes (which use an amazing 3d prop by Stonemason), you can see how n00b my first 3d work is.

In fact halfway through Space Trek Fleet Wars (comic 1), you can see the lighting hugely improves when I'd
realised you could have raytraced shadows from spotlights! It's just at the beginning of the sex scene with the blue character Twill: - the shadows and 'depth' of the scene improve noticeably.

So here we are - for these renders I downloaded the
old cabin prop I'd created (and shared on sharecg years ago), and have applied some better lights for fun. Makes quite a bit of difference I think, just that lighting and subsurface scattering on the characters' skin. Funny how years of experience can improve a scene but you don't actually need to make too many changes.

Perhaps it's like that with life; given the same opportunities to make our mistakes again, we'd likely not do things vastly differently, but the outcomes would be quite distinct.

(obviously there's no postwork on these renders - they're just for fun so there's pokethrough errors all over the place and the colours aren't right, but you get the picture)

Hold on ... thinking maybe I should do a comic with zero conversation, and just people hanging out in the nude...

Absolutely! A "silent" comic like a road runner or pink panther cartoon, or Mr Bean, but instead of physical comedy, have physical smexy! Especially keen on the all-naked part.

Now I'm in full pitch mode: Presenting, the super-easy-to-render smash hit sex comic, "Bare Boning: No clothes, no dialogue, no worries! (optional: set it in blank TacSpace and add "no set," though that starts to sound a little dull). /pitch

Heh, yeah I guess unless you're invested in the characters somehow it's difficult to care about whether they live/die and therefore difficult for the sexiness to be anything beyond pure flesh. Plenty of porn/erotica like that, and it always leaves me cold. Getting real character in without any words is possible, but is a proper magic trick, not sure I've got the Charlie Chaplin / Mr Bean skills!

On the plus side, The Crew has well enough established character traits and personalities thanks to the existing verbal comics. So they're not blank slates, and if you use them we can build off what we already know about them.

I have to say, I love the new pics.
I'm surprised that you haven't tried to animate it, the details are stunning.

Still one of my favorite sets. I am glad you shared it. Happy to see the better lighting. I need to figure a lighting and texture source for it. Major texture shared was a wire set. Still retextured it is one of my favorite sets to use.

AAARGHH!!! GOOGLE HAVE LOCKED ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT AGAIN!!! This is Project Bellerpohon, btw. Anyway, I've tried for about a week to get back in but Google's waving the banhammer REAL nice. So ... bugger. I'll update this comment thread (not much else I can do) to say if there's a new blog address or whatever. Am kinda hoping they'll let me back in if I nag enough .. that's what happened last time. And the time before that I HATE THEM AAARGHHHH

Sending love and healing white light to the rage centers of your brain... Or will that just empower your anger and transmorph you into a sexy sexy She-hulk?

Sending you some voodoo doll's that you can curse them with. Lol;-)

Cool, I'll bundle my lights for it if you want - thinking about giving away the character texture sets & decent lighting too - the quality of a lot of Poser content out there is pretty poor so maybe we should help people out

Thanks, it worked! :D

I had meant to mention this back when you posted (Damn you RL...) but these looked amazing with the re-renders! You're early work is good, but when you apply what you've learned over the whole process, it's really shows how much you have grown as an artist! I've love to see you re-render the entire first episode (but I also sense you are pleased to be bringing this project to a finale).

In either case, way to fight the Ban-Hammer! ;)

Couldn't agree more, well said sir.

No time!
Animation takes ages - only for those really shut up in their homes for weeks on end, I'm too outdoorsy to focus that much I'm afraid! Wait that makes me sounds adventurous... I just mean this is a hobby-level thing, so I don't tend to dedicate all my time to it. I imagine some people do, which is fine but must become all-consuming, which I think is sad / damaging for them tbh.

Heh, thanks TWCBS. You'll like comic 20 when it comes out then :)
(no I'm not going to re-do STFW, but thanks anyway - glad you think my work has come along!)
